Abstract: This paper sets out the concept of forest health as incorporating high-quality forest resources into traditional and modern medicine for developing a series of activities that is beneficial to human's physical and mental health such as forest regimen, therapy, rehabilitation and recreation, based on ecology and modern regimen. It also elaborates the scientific connotation of forest health, which highlights people-oriented, forest-based, convalescence-emphasized and health-destined principles. Based on the analysis of the status of national and international forest health in terms of development, certification and scientific research as well as the practices in Hunan Province, a forest health mode was constructed from five aspects including health examination, disease prevention, disease rehabilitation, disease treatment and dynamic & static combination, which could be summarized as" one center and four approaches", i. e., the model is established around the health management as the center and with forest regimen, therapy, rehabilitation and recreation as the four approaches. Further, the future development orientation for forest health industry is discussed from eight aspects including management, policy, technique, environment, base, criterion, talents and communication.
